Privacy Policy
Effective July 6, 2026
Checkmate.fm ("we", "us") is a browser game that turns chess into music. This page explains what information is handled when you use the site.
What we store
- Your games are saved in your own browser (localStorage) so they appear under "Your Games". They never leave your device unless you share them.
- Shared games — if you share a game or it appears in the Global feed, an anonymous copy of the game data (moves, result, instrument, tempo) is stored in our database (Google Firebase). No name, account, or identity is attached.
- Waitlist email — if you join the multiplayer waitlist, we store the email you enter and use it only to tell you when multiplayer launches.
There are no accounts and we don't collect names or profiles.
Cookies and advertising
We may show ads served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings. Where required (for example in the EEA and UK), you'll be asked for consent before any advertising cookies are set.
Hosting and technical data
The site is served by Cloudflare and game data is stored with Google Firebase. Like most web services, these providers process standard technical logs (such as IP address and browser type) to deliver and secure the service.
Your choices
- Clear your browser's site data to remove locally saved games.
- Email us to remove a shared game or a waitlist address.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date above.
